In presidential politics, the most important thing that has ever happened on a December 12 was the Bush v. Gore decision. All nine Supreme Court Justices failed the American people on that day, and it has nothing to do with the result. All nine justices had to vote against their previous legal beliefs in order to vote for their preferred candidate.
